Elaina Glynn moved to Virginia from Rockford, Illinois, to care
for her grandparents and did not complete her senior year of high school. She enrolled in GED® classes so she could eventually attend Mountain Empire Community College. Her GED® instructors were very helpful and encouraging, and she received her GED® test credential in April 2009. In 2010, she enrolled in the PluggedInVA Construction and Weatherization program where she received job training and help preparing her resumé while earning 24 college credits and certificates in CPR and First Aid and Microsoft Digital Literacy, as well as National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core Construction Certification, a Career Studies Certificate in Construction and Weatherization, and a Career Readiness Certificate – Silver Level. As a result, she is now a full-time crew helper with Appalachian Community Action Agency, Inc.
